MOO!
Moo was a project where I made informative posters over an article I read about the dairy industry. Since the article went over the 3 main industries for dairy: milk, cheese and ice cream; I made a poster for each. I enjoyed what the article had to talk about, there was a lot of information pertaining to the dairy industry that I had never thought about before, but ultimately the article itself was pretty dull. So, I wanted to filter a lot of the information to the main points and make sure my posters were interesting and really grabbed your attention. To grab your attention, I wanted something simple but demanding. Every poster has a main subject that hints at what the poster is about. I also wanted my typography to support the main subject so you would have more context clues as to what the posters were about. I wanted the information to be a secondary element, Something that wouldn’t take too much of your attention but something you would read.
Final Posters
My biggest inspiration for these poster was design around the 50’s, specifically for old diners and drive-ins. I found that their designs were bold yet simple. something I wanted my posters to have. I realized that a lot of design from that era was mostly hand illustrations and that was something I wanted to change. I simplified my images in photoshop by using the posterize effect, then I added a gradient map so that the photos would fit each posters color scheme. I used the primaries for my color scheme because I felt like each color fit each topic and also I found through my inspiration that a lot of their designs used bold coloring. To add to the boldness of my design, I added some elements inspired by old Russian Avante-Garde Design (most notably the piece: Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge, by El Lissitzky). I really like the kind of directional triangles that they tended to use in their designs, it added the right amount of emphasis I needed.
